The success of the second edition of the NBC’s foreign rights catalogue highly depends not only on the publishers’ list of books specifically curated for the exposure of Maltese literature in the international publishing market, but also on how each publication is effectively pitched and presented to potential rights sellers.

Some key tips on how to write an impactful Advanced Information Sheet mainly center around the delivery of an engaging pitch which is attained through “clear, compelling project descriptions”, “comparable titles” and a “concise and on-point copy”. For further reference,  publishers and authors are also encouraged to refer to the 2025 foreign rights catalogue as well as the NBC’s Advanced Information Sheet sample in order to note how such recommendations can be put into practice and aligned with the application requirements of this call.

Applicants may also receive support from the National Book Council before submitting titles for inclusion in the rights catalogue. Topics covered may include publishing contracts, foreign rights agreements, the role of agents and pitching. Individualised advice will be provided based on publishers' lists and authors' works mentioned in the application form.

Publishers are kindly requested to fill in the application form by the 5th of January 2026.

Illustrators are invited to submit proposals featuring published illustrations for display in a gallery of artworks at the NBC stand during the London Book Fair 2026. Only 10 artworks will be selected for the Illustrators Gallery; however, all illustrators who submit their work will be featured in the 2026 edition of the Literature from Malta, the NBC foreign rights catalogue, distributed at international book fairs throughout the year.

This offers an exceptional opportunity to exhibit artwork to industry professionals (see image above for a visual representation of last year’s gallery space). The artwork will be printed as part of a full vinyl sticker wrap, requiring a print-ready high-res PDF or high-resolution tiff file.

Submission requirements

Submit an artwork that represents your portfolio, in landscape format 891mm (wide) x 594mm (high) in 300 dpi, CMYK and pdf/tiff (no bleed needed), along with the following details:

🎨 Name of illustrator

🎨 Email address

🎨 Social media and/or website

🎨 Bio (not more than 50 words)

The space can be utilised as desired, potentially featuring more than one illustration. Refer to the attached image for inspiration.

Submissions Deadline

The application form must be filled out by Monday, 5th  of January 2026

The selection process for the featured artworks will be conducted by an adjudication board, which will meticulously review all submitted proposals to identify the most captivating and representative illustrations. With a focus on creativity and quality, the panel will select eight artworks that best showcase the diverse talent and vibrant artistic expression of Maltese illustrators. A collaborative approach will ensure a fair and comprehensive evaluation process.

The National Book Council (NBC) is proud to offer an amount of guest passes to publishers, authors and translators from Malta to attend the London Book Fair 2026, hosted at Olympia London from 10 to 12 March.

The NBC is providing a unique opportunity for stakeholders to network with key industry players in the global market at one of the most successful international publishing events.

A total of 20 guest passes are being offered to NBC stakeholders from Malta, allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. While the passes give access to the London Book Fair 2026 up to its full duration (10 to 12 March), travel and accommodation expenses are to be borne by the applicant.
